Since 2009, the true identity of the designer of Bitcoin has been unknown, and Satoshi Nakamoto has been the name of the pseudonymous creator. As of February 2024, a legal battle is taking place in a London court over Bitcoin ownership. Australian computer scientist Dr. Craig Wright claims to be the author of the 2008 white paper describing the Bitcoin architecture, and he has claimed ownership since 2016. Wright's lawyer has argued that if he were not the author, somebody else would have come forth by now to claim the title. See
